If you plan on fording water, make sure all your drain plug under your carpet are in. I had a courtesy light that wouldn’t come on and it caused problems (locked me out of my car with my kids inside...happened to my wife too). I went digging last night to see if I could track it down. I replaced the switch in the door but that was no good, so I traced the wire back in the door sills and noticed that there was a lot of red sand in the sills...and an empty hole. OOOPS! I found the culprit at a junction where the rear wire met the front and the supply and it was corroded to hell. replaced and working. I also plugged the hole. probably has something to do with the above picture.

stuff like that would drive me OCD rage because I would think about all that dirt being everywhere whenever I drive. Also all the scratches and scuffs and crap would also cause my OCD rage.

I don’t mind the dirt, its part of the character of the car, scratches and scuffs included. So long as I keep up with rust mitigation...im a happy camper.

I’m glad for you sincerely. I am so nervous about crap it is painful. I think if I got into offroading it would have to have a nice solid patina going on. I tend to get attached to vehicles and also really nervous about things breaking. Its like this subconscious thing that if the car is dirty or beat up then its going to break. I’m rambling now so yeah.

I’m OCD about the mechanical and about rust, but dirt/paint? meh.

I can sympathize with your electrical woes. I had an issue where the rain gutter drain on my LR3 was clogged, which for some reason routes the water into the cabin, which then shorted out the wiring harness. Sadly its apparently a common issue.

SAme story with the 80 actually. Mine was previously parked under a pine tree for a while so my first car wash was...interesting. It just takes a stiff wire to dejunk the line though and it didn’t go anywhere with electrical.

Lucky. I had to replace the wiring harness.

Coat the car in spray-on bedliner. It will be indestructible and never scratch or rust!

I’m OCD as hell with my fancy cars, but trucks are trucks, and should be treated accordingly. And for your off-road rig, every dent and scuff is a memory.

How did it lock you out? Sounds like you need a surf key somewhere.. I just had one cut for the Tacoma, cable tie it somewhere out of the way.. $5 insurance now that my little ones can reach the door locks..

if you unlock the car with the fob, but don’t open any doors in X time then it locks the car up again. So what happened is you get one kid in on the good side and the other kid on the side that didn’t know the door was open and while your brushing goldfish off their seat the keys drop out of your hands and then you shut the door...that’s locked while you weren’t paying attention. I have a spare key tapped and a fob (but no key) inside the car (cause the stupid alarm will go off without the fob.)

Ouch, ours was filling up during a road trip, I left the keys in Acc so the kids could keep listening to Raffi, my wife hopped out to grab some chips in the store and I realized if she hit the door lock, or if the kids did, we’d be screwed./
My nephew used to like to play with the keys during my neices drop-off at preschool, he managed to lock them out- then hold the panic button - Haha.. how to feel like awesome parents.
The surf key won’t work the ign, no chip. But it will open the doors.
